Kevin Wang, Ph.D

Kevin Wang is a Scientific Associate and Technical Lead on software application development at Techna and UHN. He obtained his BSc and a MESc degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then worked in industry developing high performance image registration and image guided surgery applications for several leading hospitals and research institutes. Later he obtained his PhD in medical biophysics from the University of Western Ontario. He started to work with Dr. David Jaffray at Radiation Medicine Program at UHN in 2010 and worked on several key projects such as SlicerRT and AQUA. AQUA was later commericalized and acquired by Elekta. He joined Techna in 2015 and his primary focus will be on software platform for bioinformatics.

Mickey Ng

Mickey Ng, B.Sc

Mickey Ng graduated from University of Toronto with a B. Sc. Specialist in Computer Science and Economics. He has spent many years developing software for mobile devices and framework for cross platform mobile development. Mickey has developed and contributed to awards winning applications for J2ME, Blackberries, iPhone and Android platforms.

At Epson Canada, Mickey was a Java specialist for the Point of Sale printer JavaPOS ADK. He became affiliated with Techna in September 2013 and will contribute to the Cancer Informatics team.

Anton Sukhovatkin

Anton Sukhovatkin

Anton is a full stack developer on the Data Science project, tackling every aspect of the project from front end to back end to testing to deployment.

Anton joined Techna in 2015 after six years working for various companies across a variety of applications.

When not at work coding, Anton spends his free time… coding, with significant contributions to open source projects such as Ubuntu.

Benjamin Grant

Benjamin Grant

Benjamin Grant received his MSc in Medical Biophysics from the University of Toronto where he studied protein structure and function in cancer. Before joining CDI, Ben managed a large clinical research program at Princess Margaret which focused on improving patient outcomes through technological innovations, including harnessing real-world big data, and machine learning/AI.

Ben joined CDI in January 2023 as Manager of the Data Science team. At CDI, Ben leads a team of developers, researchers, and analysts to create innovative IT solutions for real-world problems at Princess Margaret. His current projects include the clinical trial matching tool PMATCH and enabling/streamlining machine learning pipelines for clinical deployment.

Arthur Wong

Financial Business Manager

Arthur Wong, CPA, CMA, CMP

Arthur Wong, CPA, CMA, CMP, is Financial Business Manager at Techna and UHN Research Financial Service Core Facilities. He spent 12 years at Altum Health, a revenue generating department at UHN before he joined Techna. He is also a facilitator, marker and mentor for Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Canada. Arthur is actively involved in the basketball officiating community, serving as the Treasurer for the Ontario Association of Basketball Officials and the local board, York Region Association of Basketball Officials. He is on the Audit Committee for various non-profit organizations, such as Community Head Injury Resource Services.

Jimmy Qiu

Jimmy Qiu, BASc, MASc

Jimmy received his B.A.Sc. and M.A.Sc from the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Toronto. He has been working with tracking technologies in the development of image guided applications since joining University Health Network in 2009. As an academic and engineer, Jimmy is passionate about developing healthcare solutions that applies effective design and demonstrates both scientific and clinical value.

Outside of his professional work, Jimmy actively participates in the Toronto tech and creative community. He has worked on projects that have been awarded and showcased at Hacking Health Toronto, Startup Weekend Tech4Good, ideaBOOST, and Foundry music festival.

Tran Truong

Tran Truong, MHSc, B.Math

Tran Truong is the Project Director for Electronic Data Capture Solutions at the Techna Institute. She received her bachelors in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo with a specialization in Computer Science and has completed her Masters in Health Sciences in Translational Research at the University of Toronto.

She has worked at UHN for over 20 years, in close collaboration with clinician scientists to develop innovative IT solutions to improve the quality of complex care and enable clinical research. She has extensive experience leading IT teams to develop, deploy and support many local, national and international IT initiatives. Tran’s area of focus is on the design and development of point-of-care tools to support clinical research, which include electronic clinical documentation, data workflow and integration, data modelling and health ontologies, patient reported outcome systems, virtual care models and applied machine learning technologies.

Julia Publicover

Director, Translational Research and Innovation

Julia Publicover, MSc, PMP

Julia joined Techna in March 2014 as a Program Manager for the Quantitative Imaging for Personalized Cancer Medicine (QIPCM) imaging core lab.

Prior to joining Techna, Julia was a Physics Associate with the Radiation Medicine Program at UHN where she helped implement cutting edge technologies for cancer treatment including image guided radiotherapy (IGRT), volumetric arc therapy (VMAT), interventional magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) and the startup of UHN’s laboratory for cyclotron-produced radiopharmaceuticals. Julia graduated from Dalhousie University with a B.Sc. (Hon) in Physics and received her M.Sc. in Medical Physics from the University of Victoria for her work with TRIUMF, Canada’s National Nuclear and Particle Physics Lab, in cyclotron-produced radioisotopes for medicine.

Julia oversees Techna’s molecular imaging and theranostics portfolio, including as a previous member of the board for CanProbe, a GMP radiopharmaceutical production facility, and joint venture between UHN and the CPDC. Now her portfolio includes multiple research cores and strategic projects moving theranostics forward at UHN.

Kelly Lane

Kelly Lane, BSc

Kelly Lane is a Project Director at Techna who has provided strategic and project management leadership for the development and implementation of enterprise-wide solutions and multi-jurisdictional IT initiatives for over 15 years at the University Health Network. Kelly has expertise with the Canadian health IT landscape from leading national multi-year projects in collaboration with organizations such as Canada Health Infoway and the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer. Recently, she has been involved with developing and implementing machine learning algorithms as part of a clinical decision support tool implemented in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Kelly is currently working closely with an international industry partner to manage the co-development of an Oncology Information System. This innovative co-development project brings together UHN clinicians, researchers and industry to define and build a next-generation oncology system that can support all domains of cancer care including concurrent and adaptive therapies.

At UHN Kelly has led much of the initial work around electronic clinical documentation and her work on the development of the Electronic Medication Information Transfer Tool (EMITT) helped set the standard for medication reconciliation at a national and international level. Kelly’s projects have won several awards including the Best International Best Practice Award at the 2006 OHA convention for the University Health Network’s electronic Discharge Summary.

Luke Brzozowski

Executive Director, Translational Research and Core Facilities

Luke Brzozowski

Dr. Luke Brzozowski is the Executive Director for Translational Research and Cores Facilities at UHN with a portfolio that covers over 20 business units and a number of large scale innovation programs. He also leads Techna Development Team, made out of project managers, engineers, and software developers who lead, manage, and carry out health innovation programs and projects in a hospital environment. Luke also heads the Diagnostic Research Office for the Joint Department of Medical Imaging and Laboratory Medicine Program at UHN, and is the executive sponsor for the Theranostics Program at UHN. Over the last few years Luke served as the President of the board of CanProbe, a startup in the field of molecular imaging and theranostics. Prior to joining UHN, Luke held management positions in the development, marketing, legal, and regulatory departments in the health technology industry and pharmaceutical CRO. Luke is the recipient of the 2003 Governor General’s Gold Medal for his Doctorate in nanotechnology and nonlinear optics from the University of Toronto.
