Jung Ahn, B.Sc.

Jung graduated from the University of Toronto with a B.Sc. in Toxicology and Human Biology. He has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 12 years after which he pursued further studies in Accounting through CMA Ontario. Prior to joining Techna, Jung worked for the Outpatient Pharmacy finance group and as Financial Analyst for the Treasury department in Corporate Finance at UHN.

John Robertson

Research Strategy Development Specialist

John Robertson, PhD

John has served as Techna’s Research Strategy Development Specialist since 2012. He helps communicate Techna’s research and technology productization activities to a variety of audiences and supports the development of major funding proposals. He provides editorial services for grant applications and helps Techna investigators identify and apply for research funding from a number of agencies.

His primary role is to support the communications needs of the Techna institute; he is embedded within the UHN Strategic Research Initiatives Development (StRIDe) team and also supports institution-wide research communications and strategy needs.

John completed his MSc and PhD in Medical Biophysics at the University of Western Ontario (2006, 2011), where his research focused on bioelectromagnetics and functional magnetic resonance imaging. His communication skills are also put to use outside UHN as an author, a speaker, and a podcast co-host.

Alexandra Gergolas

Creative Designer

Alexandra Gergolas

Alexandra has worked at Techna since May 2015, as a creative designer and project manager. She performs a number of creative tasks such as designing and building WordPress website, creating branding and logos, designing print materials, taking photographs, and editing videos. Currently, she runs the Techna social media sites and is the head of the Techna Marketing & Design team.

She holds a BA in Media Information and Technoculture from Western University and a Diploma in Interactive Media and Design from Fanshawe College. As well as a Digital Media Skills Certificate from OCAD, and a micro-credential from OCAD in Empathy + Social Insight for Human-Centred Design.

Helena Hyams

Helena Hyams, MHI, BAH

Helena completed her Master of Health Informatics (MHI) from the University of Toronto. Her experiences were enriched by extracurricular activities and exciting research projects. In one of her projects, she worked alongside an Information Management Clinic to implement a new community Electronic Medical Record across First Nation communities on BC reserves. She also worked on a team to develop a prototype for an application to improve symptom tracking and management amongst children with cancer. Outside of class, Helena served on the Graduate Student Council to further develop her leadership, stakeholder engagement and training skills.

Helena obtained her bachelor’s degree in Health Studies from Queen’s University in 2020. During her program, Helena was introduced to the various social, economic, and political determinants that ultimately influence access to healthcare, as well as a contextual understanding of health policy. Outside of her studies, Helena was involved in student life, including serving as the Co-President of the Queen’s West Africa AIDS Foundation. Helena spent two summers working at OntarioMD as a summer student intern. In her spare time, Helena enjoys sports, including tennis, and skiing.

Linda Eum

Linda Eum, BScN, RN

Linda graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ryerson University in 2014. Since then, she has been actively providing nursing care to a wide variety of patients in Toronto. Her main areas of clinical practice include geriatric care, primary care, and mental health nursing. She has also been part of research projects focused on Infection Control and in hospital infrastructure and design.

Linda has recently pursued her passion and interest in Health Informatics by completing Ryerson University’s Health Informatics certificate program. She strives to enhance patient care and safety through the application of innovative health technologies and its benefits.

Paige Gilbank

Paige Gilbank, B.Sc., M.H.Sc.

Paige graduated from the University of Ottawa with a bachelor of science, with a specialization in biomedical science, in 2017. During her undergrad, Paige worked at Spartan Bioscience as a co-op student, and completed her fourth year thesis with the Jasmin Lab. Outside of her studies, Paige was involved with Best Buddies uOttawa, which aims to foster community between students and seniors with intellectual disabilities.

She then went on to complete a masters of health science degree at the University of Toronto, in 2019. In her masters, she worked with an interdisciplinary team on a capstone project that explored foreseeable challenges with implementation of AI clinical decision aids in radiation oncology. During her program, she was involved on several committees organizing internal social events, external networking events, and fundraising events for the TRP Disruptors cycling team participating in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer.

Agata Misiura

Agata Misiura, MSc, BHS

Agata has been immersed in health informatics since her completing her undergrad at York University, where she graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Health Studies, specializing in Health Informatics. Following this, Agata completed her postgrad studies at McMaster University, graduating in 2018 with a Master of Science with a specialization in eHealth. Agata also has a deep interest in data analytics, which she pursued by obtaining a postgrad Certificate in Data Analytics, Big Data, and Predictive Analytics from Ryerson University.

Prior to her role at Techna, Agata spent two and a half years supporting clinical information system implementations as a Clinical Informatics Coordinator at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto and Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga.

Melissa Kozak

Melissa Kozak, PEng, MHSc

Melissa Kozak is a Clinical Engineer at Techna with expertise in developing and implementing electronic outcomes capture tools, as well as in oncology safety and human factors engineering. Prior to joining Techna she worked as a Human Factors Engineer with HumanEra @ UHN where she used human factors methods and frameworks to identify risks and opportunities to improve safety in a variety of healthcare settings across Canada, and to build human factors capacity internationally. Melissa is a Professional Engineer who has an MHSc. Clinical Engineering degree from the University of Toronto (2010) and a BSc. Mechanical Engineering degree from Queen’s University (2006).

Ivan Yeung

Ivan Yeung, PhD

Dr. Ivan Yeung is the Head of Medical Physics at the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre and a Senior Medical Physicist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre; he is also an Assistant Professor at the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto. He is the Physics Lead in the QIPCM core lab at TECHNA, in charge of the quality assurance and data analysis service provided for a number of clinical trials. He has extensive clinical and research experience in both Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy Physics. Dr. Yeung is a pioneer researcher in perfusion CT imaging and his research interest includes quantitative imaging, radiomics, brachytherapy, hypoxia imaging and theranostics.

Daniel Xun Lin

Daniel Xun Lin, BASc, MHSc

Daniel joined Techna Institute as an engineer in March 2016. He is involved with the development of image guided tracking technologies and treatment workflow QA technologies at UHN.

Daniel received a BASc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a MHSc in Clinical Engineering from the University of Toronto. He brings experience from consumer electronics and medical education industry in circuit design, embedded firmware development, tracking technologies, and software application development.
